When to Water Sansevieria(Snake Plant) – How Much, Often?

Every gardener, even those who don’t garden, needs snake plants. Because they are versatile and may purge your home’s air of toxins. Snake plants are low maintenance and will continue to thrive even if you ignore them. Let’s talk about how to remedy the issue since watering this plant can lead to issues.

When should Sansevieria be watered? When the topsoil of a Sansevieria pot becomes dry, which can happen at any time during the day, you should water the snake plant. Snake plants, which require less water to survive, may do so because they store water in their leaves, which makes them feel cold to the touch rather than heated.

Snake plants can withstand a wide range of environments, such as strong winds, intense sun, and low temperatures. They do well in all conditions, but watering is the one that requires advice because excessive watering can affect the plant’s roots and overall health.

Although snake plants are technically intended to grow in partial shade, many people, like myself, grow them in bright sunshine to hasten their growth so that we can bring them indoors to accomplish their intended purpose of purging our homes of any poisonous air.

They go dormant during the winter, and growth stops completely, but once winter is through, they resume normal growth.

As they store water very efficiently in their leaves, snake plants require significantly less water in the winter and I only need to water them once every two weeks or every 15 days.

Every fifth day, pay special attention to the soil’s surface to determine how quickly or slowly water can evaporate. In the summer, it can take 6-7 days for the water to dry out using this soil mixture.

Advice for the summer

If you keep them inside throughout the summer, you can feed them water after 6-7 days.

Watering is lowered to every 4-5 days in partial shade.

And if you place them in direct sunlight, they will want regular water in 2 to 3 days, depending on how warm and hot it is in your city. Maintain this consistency because watering is a crucial element.

How much water do we need to provide? Give them full water until it spills out of the bottom of the pothole if they went for like 15 days without receiving it. For those who give them water on a weekly basis, you guys can sprinkle water on top; 50% water is sufficient for them. People who place them in direct sunlight should give them 100% of the water they need since this causes them to dry out the most water.

They are susceptible to illnesses and pests, therefore you should buy some fungicide and insecticide to keep bugs away from them. Some of the symptoms, as you may have heard, include leaf blotches and brown or pale leaves.

Water can harm this plant, although it won’t be a major problem if you find the snake plant’s leaves becoming brown at the tips, which is an indication of overwatering. Overwatering may be controlled, and weekly watering is sufficient for snake plants.
